We're already well aware of the fact that David Lynch is an odd duck. Often a bit too brilliant for his own good, Lynch is the mastermind behind cult hits like Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks, Mulholland Dr. and Inland Empire. It's been awhile since we've seen a new film from Lynch, though, partly because the artist has been busying himself with other things, like his website, his music and his new line of signature cup organic coffee.
And in order to promote his new line of signature cup organic coffee, Lynch has taken it upon himself to create the weirdest 4-minute advertisement featuring one close-up shot of the head of a Barbie doll in between Lynch's fingers, which look as if they're about to pop her head right off. For the duration of the ad, Lynch has this wacky, stalker-ish conversation with the Barbie doll about his coffee and a few other things, like how beautiful she is. It's the kind of video you'd expect to find hidden in the home of a serial killer, but because it's David Lynch we just write it off as just another of the filmmaker's strange art pieces.
As to whether the ad works and makes you want to try a cup of his signature coffee, I'll leave it to IFC's Matt Singer who said it best via Twitter: "It doesn't make me want to drink coffee. Or ever let myself fall sleep again."
