Last October brought news that a fourth Starship Troopers movie was in the works, that it would be an animated film from Appleseed director Shinji Aramaki and would focus on a rescue mission to save Carl Jenkins (AKA Neil Patrick Harris in Paul Verhoeven's film). It all sounded pretty promising, though that's not hard considering the two Starship Troopers straight-to-video live-action sequels set the bar pretty low and so a new animated take on the franchise can only hope to improve things. Today brings our first hint of what that hope will actually look like.
IGN has the Starship Troopers: Invasion trailer premiere, which isn't quite what we were expecting. Remove the spaceships and this looks like the teaser trailer for Crysis 2. That's all well and good - the feature film series is finally doing right by Robert A. Heinlein and focusing on the mechanical suits that were such an integral part of his book that started it all and were left out of the first film purely for budget reasons - except that we were hoping to get a glimpse of what happens to Jenkins that finds him in need of rescue. Still, we'll take a Roughneck powering up their bug-killing suit if we can get one.
And for comparison, here's the Crysis 2 nanosuit teaser.
