The new animated series Star Wars: Rebels is hurtling toward its premiere in October, and to tease all of us just a little bit further, Lucasfilm has released the first seven minutes (plus) of the first episode.
For those of us who may be jumping back on the bandwagon in anticipation of J.J. Abrams' upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII, the sneak peek provides familiar imagery: a Star Destroyer passes overhead, phasers fire away, and stormtroopers aplenty crowd a couple of scenes. The series is set five years before the events in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope and depicts the rebellion against the Galactic Empire in its beginning stages. It's not a clean, pristine world we see, but a place where graffiti and dilapidated buildings indicate neglect and unhappiness with the Empire.
Beyond the iconic imagery, however, the sneak peek provides an idea of how the show will be paced and the story told. Remember, the series is aimed at younger viewers and will premiere on Disney XD. While viewers of all ages will be tuning in, the show is designed for younger people who may never have watched -- or at least memorized! -- the first six episodes of the movie series.
Star Wars: Rebels will be centered on new characters, who all need to be introduced, In this speedy sneak peek, we start with Ezra, the show's hero, but very quickly meet Kanan, the Cowboy Jedi; Hera, the pilot; Zeb, the muscle; and others. All indicatations are that we'll be seeing some familiar faces in the show, but that will come a bit later.
The sneak peek provides a very brief, but very solid introduction to the Star Wars universe and to the new series. You can watch it below. [Coming Soon]
