With production about to get underway across the pond, Disney and LucasFilm are locking up the remaining cast members for their ridiculously anticipated (and supersecret) Star Wars sequel, due out on December 18, 2015. While they haven't issued an official press release yet with the full cast (of which folks like Gary Oldman, Benedict Cumberbatch and original cast members Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher are rumored), Variety tells us that Girls star Adam Driver may be nearing a deal to play the film's villain, said to be in the vein of Darth Vader.
The freakishly lanky Driver has been on their list for awhile now, and we've heard his name thrown around for all types of big projects, including Batman vs. Superman. But it looks like he's heading in the Star Wars direction, and we see his tall stature and somewhat creepy deep-voiced sensibilities working well in the Star Wars universe.
What kind of villain he'll be is still unknown. Will he appear in all three movies in this new trilogy? Will he start out as a regular dude (maybe even a good dude?) and then switch to some kind of suit after a battle injury, like Darth Vader did? Still lots of questions to be answered, but we do love how this scene from Inside Llewyn Davis now takes on new meaning in that Driver was perhaps foreshadowing his next big role by repeatedly shouting, "Outer. Space."
What do you think of Adam Driver as the new Star Wars villain?
