Today we’ve got the inside scoop on the beloved Star Wars character Wedge Antilles, a rumor about Adam Driver’s role in the upcoming sequel, and the coolest goalie masks outside of the NHL.
We kick things off with the latest rumor about actor Adam Driver and Episode VII. Since his casting was announced, everyone assumed the Girls actor was going to be a villain. Not so fast…
Jedi News has a source who says that given all the script changes and updating of the story for the new film, Driver will likely not be quite as villainous as first expected:
“He will be playing the son of Han and Leia, and it seems he will be seduced to the Dark Side, and a main plot point for the movie will be their attempt to rescue him."
Being rescued seems a bit different than being a total villain, but keep in mind that this is still a rumor. Interesting, though, because if Driver isn’t a major bad guy, that opens up the door for someone else.
Wedge Antilles eases into retirement
Of all the secondary characters in the Star Wars universe, few have been more popular than X-Wing pilot Wedge Antilles. Wedge was around for all three of the films in the original trilogy, but unfortunately he won’t be back for Episode VII.
Actor Dennis Lawson had a surprising response when asked by someone in Abrams’ crew if he’d like to come back for the new film:
“I’m not going to do that. They asked me but it just would have bored me.”
Wow. Guess Lawson has decided it’s time to let Wedge fade off into the sunset.
Meanwhile, fans disappointed that Mr. Colt .45 himself, Billy Dee Williams, won’t be turning up in Episode VII can at least take solace in the fact that he will be in the upcoming animated series Star Wars: Rebels. [via IndieWire]
Bauer reveals Star Wars-themed goalie masks
Star Wars has never been a franchise shy about merchandising – from action figures, to lunch boxes, to bath soap, the characters from a galaxy far, far away have turned up on all sorts of commercial products over the years. Today, they break into an entirely new arena: hockey.
Equipment manufacturer Bauer has unveiled five new goalie masks with a Star Wars theme – and they look awesome. Goalies have been putting elaborate “war paint” on their masks for years (essentially turning it into an artform), but if you can’t afford to spring for a custom paint job, this might be the next best thing.
The five masks feature a little something for everyone. Luke Skywalker lovers can don a cage that features the character as he appeared in Empire Strikes Back. Yoda fans can showcase the mini Jedi in battle. Personally, I’d be all about the Darth Vader mask, but there are also some Shock Troopers from the new trilogy, and the sure-to-be-popular bucket featuring intergalactic bounty hunter Boba Fett.
Expect to find these at your local sporting goods retailer in the very near future.
