Due to the family-friendly prequels, the LEGO games and the ridiculous amount of merchandise aimed at kids, the Star Wars franchise has toned it down in recent years in order to bring in a new audience who didn't grow up with the adventures of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, but rather Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan. However, it's in their non-LEGO games where the Star Wars franchise is currently taking more risks, and based on what we've seen so far Star Wars 1313 is the first game set inside the franchise that's purely aimed at an older crowd; a game so dark, gritty and intense that it may even earn itself an "M" (Mature) rating.

What's interesting about Star Wars 1313 is that it seems to go in a similar direction to that of the planned live-action TV series, which was said to focus on a seedy underworld. In Star Wars 1313 that's exactly where we're heading, straight to the dangerous territory located underneath the ancient city of Coruscant, home to the Jedi Council in the prequels. The storyline, which is set between Episodes III and IV, will follow a bounty hunter whose mission forces him to visit this lowly corner of the Star Wars universe.
The trailer looks pretty fantastic, and definitely epic in scope. It's nice to see the Star Wars universe dealing with more adult themes, even if we're only getting them in video games. Could this one day carry over to another movie franchise? Based on this trailer, that's something we'd definitely support. Once we're far enough removed from the Skywalker story, there's plenty to play around with, and we imagine they might be using this game as a test to see if the TV series will draw enough of a crowd since they'll both be aimed at the same sort of demographic.
What do you think? Is this a Star Wars story you're ready to invest in?
