Earlier this week it was announced that Star Trek Into Darkness would be premiering nine minutes of footage in front of select IMAX screenings of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, leading us to write about whether this was one of the most important movie previews (for moviegoing) in a long time. But what about those who don't see the IMAX footage, or can't see it? Well according to the sleuths over at TrekMovie, we now know those nine minutes aren't the only taste of the next Star Trek movie we'll be getting this December 14.
In addition to the IMAX preview, there will also be a regular old-fashioned movie trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness that will play in conventional theaters in front of The Hobbit and Jack Reacher, as well as online. Like The Dark Knight Rises and Mission Impossible -- Ghost Protocol, the IMAX preview will most likely remain in IMAX theaters and not be released online, so if you want those extra minutes you'll have to go to one of those IMAX screenings.
Meanwhile, TrekMovie also pulled a quote from Captain Kirk himself, Chris Pine, on the special footage preview, and even he doesn't know what to expect."The thing with J.J. [Abrams] is that he’s like the master puppeteer, so it’s like none of us know anything, I didn’t know that it was going to be shown, I don’t know what the footage is, what’s exciting for that for me is that I get excited so I want to go to the theater to just to check it out. I’m excited for people to see this movie, it’s bigger than the last one, we have a great villain, I can’t wait until it’s released.”
Just how much of the sequel is revealed remains to be seen, but like you we'll be counting down the days till it arrives.
