Throughout the year movie studios and movie-theater owners hold various conventions wherein they get together to show one another what the future holds. In the U.S., this big event is called CinemaCon. In Europe, the big one is creatively called CineEurope, and this week Paramount gave a presentation to theater owners that mentioned a rather daunting list of movies the studio will be releasing in 2016 (according to THR):
Paranormal Activity 5
Beverly Hills Cop 4
G.I. Joe 3
Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters 2
Star Trek 3
Some of those movies, like Star Trek 3 and Transformers 5, have been known for awhile, but a few are a bit surprising. A 2016 date for Paranormal Activity 5 means there will have been an unprecedented gap of three years between it and the last movie (Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones is technically a spin-off). And the studio has been flirting with a Beverly Hills Cop reboot idea for awhile (a TV pilot was made, but it stunk and was not picked up), but THR reports that the 2016 movie will be Eddie Murphy's return to the series, effectively making it a sequel 22 years after 1994's Beverly Hills Cop III.
We don't know who is directing half of these movies (Timur Bekmambetov is doing Ben Hur, Roberto Orci Star Trek 3) at this point, but that's not going to stop the studio from pinning down a release date for them. And it certainly shows that Paramount is quite confident its 2015 slate is going to make it plenty of money so it can go even bigger in 2016, which isn't too surprising considering it includes the sequels Terminator: Genesis, Friday the 13th in 3D, Hot Tub Time Machine 2 and Mission: Impossible 5.
So, hope you're into some of the franchises above, because they are not going away anytime soon.
