Look: Fantastic (and Freaky) Stanley Kubrick Cinemagraphs

Aug 24, 2011

Taking the animated GIF just one step further are these really cool cinemagraphs, which are still photographs that separate a small movement from the film scene and repeat it within the image. So, for example, you have this image of Jack Nicholson from The Shining where they've taken his eye and hand movement, but left everyting else still -- creating this freaky effect that you can't stop staring at. And Stanley Kubrick is the perfect filmmaker to do this for because so many of of his still images are memorable for different reasons, many of which have to do with the emotions they evoke in the moviegoer.

Check out some of our favorite Kubrick cinemagraphs below, and see more over at Filmmaker.com.
