It's safe to say that all New Yorkers under the age of 60 think of squirrels as rats with bushy tails. Squirrels in NYC can be aggressive. The squirrels of Timur Bekmambetov's newest movie are deadly. If you thought the director's Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter was absurd, behold his latest: a movie about flesh-eating squirrels that seek revenge upon humans for destroying their habitat thanks to fracking.
The below trailer is the sales reel Bekmambetov used when he was at Cannes trying to raise money for the movie. Bleeding Cool indicates production hasn't started yet, which means someone actually gave this thing the green light. On a less serious note, it looks like it could be gory, D-level fun, perhaps on the same level as Birdemic, but with better effects. Bekmambetov didn't win audiences over with his historical horror film, and we doubt that deranged rodents will blow the critics away, but see what you think of this trailer.
Will you see Squirrels in theaters?
