One of the more talked-about films (good and bad) at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival is Spring Breakers, an unexpected choice for the wildly experimental Harmony Korine, who teams with Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, Rachel Korine and James Franco on what's easily his most commercial effort yet. The film, written and directed by Korine, follows four college girls who land in jail after they try to rob a restaurant to help fund their spring break vacation. Comedy, drama, adventure and Franco doing his best over-the-top gangsta impression ensue.
We'll post our official Spring Breakers Toronto review soon, though reactions are already popping up online. Our buddy Matt Patches from Hollywood.com tweeted earlier, "Spring Breakers successfully rips party/youth culture a new one. Franco's Kevin Federline parody rules. For fans of the two: Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez do things in Spring Breakers you can't unsee. Keep that in mind! I really dug it but it is highly critical of people who might be into it for the party/sex stuff."
While the world waits to see these girls gone wild, check out the film's press conference from Toronto.
