Here's the exact thought process that was going through my brain while watching the first teaser trailer for Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man:
1. We get to see Peter Parker's parents, that's interesting...
2. Er, is this yet another origin story?
3. Not all superhero movies need to be as moody as The Dark Knight...
4. Wait a second, are they really just going to rip off Mirror's Edge like that?
And since the trailer hit, I've heard a lot of people defending the video gamey look of the trailer's free-running, web-slinging POV shot. And while I agree that it's not like First Person Shooters invented the first person perspective, that final bit is a little too similar to the DICE-developed, EA-published 2007 game Mirror's Edge, which is basically a parkour FPS. Check out this comparison video:
What do you think? Is The Amazing Spider-Man lifting Mirror's Edge's style (and trailer)? Or is the similarity just a coincidence? And regardless of your answer, does that POV footage even work for you?
