The year 2013 isn’t even two weeks old yet, but so far we’d label this as the year of Spider-Man concept art.
Last week, we featured some newly uncovered designs of Dr. Curt Connors as the Lizard that were originally intended for Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2. Today, we’ve got some other concept art for an action sequence that never made it into Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man.
The newest artwork, recently revealed on artist Josh Nizzi’s website, features a massive battle between Spidey and the Lizard that takes place on a double-decker tourist bus careening through NYC before crashing through barricades and winding up on the ice rink at Rockefeller Center.
We’ve no idea why this set piece didn’t make it into the final film – it’s got loads of action, plus it shows off Lizard’s ability to camouflage himself in the urban environment, which is totally cool – but we’d guess it was probably either because of cost or the logistics.
While we might not ever see that scene with actors and special effects, at least Nizzi’s artwork gives us a tantalizing glimpse at what might have been.
Check out some of the artwork below, then swing by the artist’s website for more Amazing Spider-Man goodies.
