Update: Sony has just unveiled that the first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will hit online December 5, 2013, after first being shown on Good Morning America. If you want to see it on the big screen, your first opportunity will be with The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
When it comes to rebooting a classic superhero, one of the hardest things to get right is the costume. You need to find this balance of honoring what came before while also evolving the suit to fit the sensibilities of what today's audiences expect (and want) to see. Who knows how many concept designs they went through when trying to figure out what Andrew Garfield's version of Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man would look like, but below we have three designs that weren't used.
What we see in these designs is a darker, more metallic version of Spider-Man. Heck, in one design they even lose the spider on his chest and add webbed gliders to his back, which we admit is pretty friggin' cool. Compare the unused designs with the final version below, then check out The Amazing Spider-Man 2 when it hits theaters on May 2, 2014. [via Film Paint, JoBlo]
