Is this a case of a director spoiling his own movie before the professionals can sniff it out? Only three days into production on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and its director, Marc Webb, has been teasing fans by tweeting one image per day from the set. The first was an image of the camera operator, and the second was one from Oscorp. It's that second image that may directly tie into the third (and perhaps most revealing) image that Webb tweeted late last night: a locker with the number "14" on it.
For casual moviegoers that locker may not mean much to you, but for Spider-Man fans locker 14 is the same one where Peter Parker and Eddie Brock discover the Venom suit in the Ultimate Spider-Man comics. Accompanying the image was the hashtag #happybirthday, which isn't necessarily referencing said story arc from the comics, but instead may be an actual birthday wish sent out to none other than Dane Dehaan, who stars as Harry Osborn in the sequel and whose birthday was yesterday.
So, yeah, the logical conclusion is that Harry Osborn will turn on Peter and become the new Venom, eventually spinning off into his own Venom movie with his Chronicle buddy Josh Trank potentially directing. From a story perspective it makes complete sense. The sequel will find Peter digging deeper into his father's past, as well as his connection to Oscorp (in the Ultimate comics it's Peter's father who cocreates the Venom suit to help cure cancer). He'll find the suit with his childhood friend Harry (instead of his childhood friend Brock) and we imagine the sequel may tease Venom into the third movie since three full-on villains in one movie (Electro, Rhino, Venom) could get a little too busy, as we've seen previously.
The big question is whether Webb would make it that easy. Would he really just hand us that on day three of production? Let us know what you think below.
