Must Watch: 'South Park' Spoofs 'The Shining' via Blockbuster Video in Its Halloween Episode

Oct 25, 2012

If you missed last night's South Park Halloween episode, do yourself a favor and set aside some time to watch it today. The previews told us that Stan's father Randy had a new business venture that was preventing Stan from going trick or treating with his friends. Well, that business venture turned out to be the purchasing of an old, run-down Blockbuster video store, and aside from paying homage to The Shining in a number of scenes, the episode just trashes DVDs, hammering home the point that physical media is quickly becoming a ghost that haunts only those who grew up with it and refuse to let it go. There's also an amusing side story involving the boys fighting real-life crime while dressed up in Avengers Halloween costumes, complementing the episode's overall themes in some pretty hilarious ways.

Check out a very Shining-esque clip below, then watch the entire episode here. What do you think? Do you agree with Stan when he says DVDs are as ancient as Madonna's boobs?
