Slick Robert Pattinson in Sensational ‘Cosmopolis’ Trailer; Darren Aronofsky Reveals First Pic of Noah’s Ark

The Ark: Director Darren Aronofsky used Twitter to announce that Anthony Hopkins had been cast in his upcoming Noah, and now he’s done it again, tweeting a photo of the ark under construction (above), along with the comment: “I dreamt about this since I was 13. And now it's a reality.” Speaking of reality, be sure to read our own Peter S. Hall’s great article, explaining why there’s good reason to be excited about the Arnofsky's vision for the film. In One, Out the Other: Once known as Spider-Man, Tobey Maguire has taken a lower profile since then. He's just booked a supporting role in Jason Reitman’s Labor Day, a coming-of-age story about a 13-year-old boy that stars Kate Winslet as the kid’s mother and Josh Brolin as a mysterious stranger; Maguire will play the boy as an adult and also narrate. In an odd twist, though, Maguire will not be appearing in Ang Lee’s Life of Pi, which is due out this fall. The actor was announced for a bit part more than a year ago, but word is that Lee decided not to use him after all. [Deadline]

Face-Off: Back in 1962, Joan Crawford and Bette Davis memorably faced off as sister vs. sister in the crackling melodrama What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, directed by Robert Aldrich. Now writer/director Walter Hill (Bullet to the Head) wants to remake it, with the blessing of Aldrich’s estate, which controls the rights. In the original, the sisters were aging movie actresses, and Hill intends for his new version “to resonate the golden age of Hollywood.” Who could play the roles inhabited by the immortal Joan and Bette? [Deadline]

Limo Rider: Though the critical reaction coming out of Cannes was somewhat mixed, the new trailer for David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis, starring Robert Pattinson, is, frankly, sensational. The film is due out on August 17. [Apple via Collider]
