This Video Claims to Have Found All the References in Guillermo del Toro's Brilliant 'Simpsons' Couch Gag

Simpsons Treehouse of Horror XXIVPeople often complain that The Simpsons isn't nearly as good as it used to be -- and they're right -- but this new opening clip for the "Treehouse of Horror XXIV" certainly reminds us of the days when the show was "must-see TV."

Crafted by Guillermo del Toro, the extended opening to this year's Halloween extravaganza is amazing. Filled with countless references to horror icons at every turn, even the biggest horror geeks will have to watch it multiple times to catch them all. From Stephen King to the del Toro's the Pale Man, this is a treasure trove of in-jokes and awesome references. The saddest part? Odds are high that this three-minute clip will be better than any of the actual stories in the year's episode. Granted, 24 years of doing this means the well is going to run dry at some point, but it's still sad to think that the opening teaser is likely to be better than the show itself.

Watch the opening sequence sans references in the first video below, then check out the annotated version Movie Pilot put together that claims to have found all the references.

Did they?
