We saw The Dark Knight Rises last night and we dug The Dark Knight Rises last night. It does everything it needed to do and mostly gets it right, and one of the film's true standouts is Anne Hathaway, playing a brilliantly selfish cat burglar who gets mixed up in events that are so much bigger than her. If Batman has met his match physically with Bane (Tom Hardy), then he meets it intellectually with Catwoman (or Selina Kyle), and every scene is made that much more alluring with her in it. So with Nolan's three-part chapter in the can, is it possible we'll see Hathaway's character spin off into her own franchise?
Short answer: Sure, why not? Speaking to Access Hollywood, Christopher Nolan certainly appeared in favor of it. “Anne is incredibly precise and articulate about the psychology of the character. She’s really built it from the ground up, it’s just a delight to watch her perform. The things she does in those heels is not to be taken lightly. She’s an incredible character and we’re very excited to see her and hopefully we’ll leave people wanting more.”
Wanting more, you say? Nolan said he'd never do another Batman movie, so could he do a Catwoman movie instead? "For me, Gotham and these characters, I’m done. I’ve told our story and I’m moving on." But .... "I certainly think she deserves it, she’s incredible.” We'll agree with Nolan that she deserves it and is incredible, but does she deserve a spin-off that isn't directed by Nolan?
That's a question we'll leave you to decide once you see the film, in theaters this weekend.
