Paramount Pursues Post-Apocalyptic 'Monster Problems' for Shawn Levy's 21 Laps

Jun 18, 2012

Shawn Levy, directorReal Steel director Shawn Levy apparently never met a screenplay he didn’t want to produce or direct – and as such, the 43-year-old filmmaker has enough projects in development to keep him busy until he hits retirement age. That hasn’t stopped him from taking on more work, though – and we’ve got the skinny on his latest.

THR reports that Paramount is currently in negotiations to acquire the rights to Brian Duffield’s spec script Monster Problems so that Levy can produce it through his 21 Laps banner.

The script, which is billed as a post-apocalyptic road movie like Zombieland and Mad Max with a John Hughes love-story in its warm, gooey center, is Duffield’s third potential success story. The writer also penned Jane Got a Gun – which has attracted Lynne Ramsey and Natalie Portman – and his romantic comedy Your Bridesmaid’s a Bitch has landed Eli Craig as the director.

Levy’s involvement in Monster Problems will probably be minimal. Billy Rosen and Dan Cohen will oversee the project for 21 Laps while Levy prepares to direct The Internship – a comedy reuniting Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson slated for a July start.
