Sequel Roundup: Get the Latest on 'Avatar 2,' 'Wolverine 3' and 'Mission: Impossible 5'

May 12, 2014

Wolverine Hugh JackmanWho’s ready for some sequel news? We’ve got the latest on Avatar, Wolverine 3 and Mission: Impossible 5 in today’s roundup.

There’s been a whole lot of buzz in the X-Men universe lately about Hugh Jackman eventually hanging up his Adamantium claws and riding off into the superhero sunset. So much so that it’s no longer a question of what Fox will do if Jackman departs the series, but when.

To help make things easier on the actor, the studio is considering shooting both 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse and the third Wolverine film back-to-back. This way Jackman would only have to endure his grueling fitness regimen once, and the actor seems okay with the idea of that. Maybe they can just shoot 10 or 11 films in a row and keep him in the series until he’s 70 or something, because it’s hard to picture anyone else playing the character at this point. [via /Film]

Sigourney Weaver talks Avatar sequels

Actress Sigourney Weaver did an interview last week, and while she didn’t quite spill the beans with regards to how she’ll return to James Cameron’s Pandora in the new Avatar films, she did drop a tantalizing hint that sure to get fanboys speculating.

"It will be challenging for me. I can't talk about it, but my part is a little different in each one. I'll transform somewhat."

Interesting… let the rumors about what this all means commence. [via Coming Soon]

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to write Mission: Impossible 5

Christopher McQuarrie’s Mission: Impossible 5 already had a screenwriter in the form of Drew Pearce, but now the project has brought in a second scribe: video game writer Will Staples.

Staples has worked on various games, including Call of Duty 3, but has yet to make his big Hollywood debut. This should remedy that nicely.

No word yet on whether Staples will do a revision draft of Pearce’s script, or if it’s a complete rewrite. [via Cinemablend]
