Sequel Buzz: 'Avengers: Infinity War' Packs 32 Heroes into One Scene, Jeff Goldblum Wrote His Own 'Jurassic World 2' Lines and More

Jun 19, 2017

The hottest sequels in the works right now include the second Godzilla, the third Pitch Perfect, the fourth Avengers and the fifth Jurassic Park/World. Well, we've got the latest on each of them below.

Michael Crichton and Jeff Goldblum's Jurassic World 2 Contributions

Everyone is excited about Jeff Goldblum's return to the Jurassic franchise in Jurassic World 2, but fans of the series from the beginning will have even more to appreciate. According to cowriter/producer Colin Trevorrow, talking to MTV's Happy Sad Confused podcast, the sequel owes a lot to the Michael Crichton novels (Jurassic Park and The Lost World) that the movies are based on.

Here's a quote about that and Goldblum's contribution, via /Film:

You know, I did rely on Crichton for a lot. I used a lot of Crichton dialogue. Maybe one of my highlights of this whole process is Goldblum. Jeff Goldblum called me -- and I’m not going to do an impression -- but he was like, "Look, I’ve added a couple of things, and I thought I’d perform it for you." [Laughs] Oh, great, okay. So, we sat on the phone for an hour as he ran these lines, and I talked about it. And, I mean, that’s -- it was almost better than being there on set. It was great.

Jurassic World 2 is due in theaters on June 22, 2018.

Avengers: Infinity War Packs a Lot of Characters into One Scene

You loved the scope of the Leipzig Airport sequence in Captain America: Civil War with its many heroes (12, specifically) fighting all at once, right? Well, Avengers: Infinity War is looking to really impress and make that look like nothing. We know the sequel is going to be juggling tons of MCU characters, all of the major ones, but Scarlett Johansson has teased at least one scene that will have about half of them on-screen at the same time.

She stated while appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert:

At one point, I do think that in the Infinity Wars — there are 61 or 62 Marvel characters in it. There’s a lot. In one particular scene, I think there’s 32 — there’s a lot. There’s so many of us. I don’t even know who’s a Marvel character and who’s a crew member, honestly.

Watch the whole talk show appearance below. And see Avengers: Infinity War in theaters on May 4, 2018.

Godzilla Production Begins with Official Synopsis Reveal

Technically, the second Godzilla movie is the third installment of Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures' MonsterVerse, which also includes Kong: Skull Island. The movie might be looking at a new title, as there's no mention of the title being Godzilla: King of the Monsters in the latest press release, but it is kicking off production today (also in Atlanta).

The studio confirmed Michael Dougherty is directing from a script he cowrote with Zach Shields, and the movie stars Vera Farmiga, Kyle Chandler, Millie Bobby Brown, Bradley Whitford, Thomas Middleditch, Zhang Ziyi, Charles Dance, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Aisha Hinds and Ken Watanabe and Sally Hawkins, both reprising their roles from 2014's Godzilla. They also confirmed this plot:

The new story follows the heroic efforts of the cryptozoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

Godzilla 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on March 22, 2019.

Pitch Perfect 3 Wraps Production with a Video Scrapbook

The Bellas are returning for another Pitch Perfect sequel this year, and the movie just recently wrapped filming in Atlanta (also home to Avengers: Infinity War and Godzilla). While there's no trailer ready to keep the fans satisfied, Universal did release a wrap reel that shows us some behind-the-scenes goodies in a sweet, tear-filled scrapbook-like framework.

See Rebel Wilson, Hailee Steinfeld, John Michael Higgins, Elizabeth Banks, Anna Camp, Brittany Snow and others, including new addition John Lithgow and new director Trish Sie working and playing on set as you wait for it to come out on December 22. Watch the reel here:
