See Many of Your Favorite Movie Easter Eggs in One Nerdy Supercut

Shaun of the DeadWhen you mention Easter eggs to most people, they think of colorfully decorated hard-boiled eggs that kids make every spring in celebration of the Easter Bunny’s arrival. However, when you say this to a film geek, we think of something entirely different. An Easter egg to a hard-core movie lover is usually something hidden in a scene of a film that is a nod to another film – and spotting them is one of my favorite pastimes.

The guys at Screen Junkies feel the same way, and they’ve put together this entertaining video highlighting some of the best Easter eggs around. While you might have already known a few of them (the hidden things in Tarantino’s films have been well documented) there’s probably at least one thing here you weren’t familiar with (for me, it was the Shaun of the Dead bit – I’ll never look at that early scene in the same way again. Clever work.)

Being a horror geek, one of my favorite Easter eggs involves the little back-and-forth Sam Raimi and Wes Craven waged over a series of films. Raimi fired the first salvo, by placing a poster for Craven’s The Hills Have Eyes in the basement of the cabin of the original Evil Dead. Craven heard about it, so he upped the ante by placing not only a ripped poster for Evil Dead in A Nightmare on Elm Street, but by having Nancy watch Evil Dead while trying to stay awake (ouch). Raimi then retaliated by placing Freddy Krueger’s glove above the door to the tool shed in Evil Dead 2. Nothing like watching two masters of the form try to one-up each other.
