If you weren’t already convinced that making a short sci-fi film was a great way to catch Hollywood’s eye, then allow us to show you more supporting evidence.
In a week where Dan Trachtenberg landed a gig directing Y: The Last Man based on the strength of a short film he made inspired by the popular video game Portal, it shouldn’t be too shocking to learn that 23-year-old student Kaleb Lechowski is generating a lot of viral buzz with his short film R’ha. Based on his work here, it wouldn't be too surprising if we were posting news about Lechowski landing a Hollywood gig in the not-too-distant future..
Lechowski crafted R’ha with a computer over the span of seven months. A student at Berlin’s Mediadesign Hochschule, he resorted to the complete computer design for his film out of financial necessity.
The short features a sci-fi tale with nods to big hits like Terminator and Star Wars, and revolves around a captured alien being interrogated by an artificial intelligence. It's rough around the edges, but there's definitely talent on display.
Check out the short below and get familiar with Lechowski’s name, because we suspect you’ll be hearing more of it in the future.
