Everyone from Natalie Portman to Sarah Snook and Carey Mulligan were said to be contenders for the coveted part of Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher's The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo
— including Avengers
star Scarlett Johansson
. The director recently brought the casting subject up again while speaking with Vogue
magazine about Rooney Mara
and revealed that he felt ScarJo was far too attractive to take the part of the quirky hacker.
"Scarlett Johansson was great. It was a great audition, I’m telling you. But the thing with Scarlett is, you can’t wait for her to take her clothes off," Fincher told Vogue. The Social Network director continued, explaining that he wanted Salander's character to be a "great weirdo." He told the magazine, "Salander should be like E.T. If you put E.T. dolls out before anyone had seen the movie, they would say, ‘What is this little squishy thing?’ Well, you know what? When he hides under the table and he grabs the Reese’s Pieces, you love him! It has to be like that." Strange much?
Fincher and Mara also discuss in the interview how her role in the "pervy franchise" could tarnish her career for life by pigeonholing her. Read the full story on Vogue's website
