Lots of buzz today concerning director Spike Jonze’s latest film. What’s it really about and who will star in it? We’re not entirely sure, but here are the latest rumors.
Sources tell Deadline that Samantha Morton, Amy Adams, and Carey Mulligan are currently in discussions to star alongside Joaquin Phoenix in the currently untitled film for Jonze. Early reports indicated that the film was “a satire about how world leaders gather to figure out all the seismic events that will take place in the worlds, from oil prices to wars that will be waged,” and based on a script by Charlie Kaufman.
This has since changed, however – and now Deadline indicates that the story will revolve around a guy who falls in love with the voice of a computer. Think of it like developing a serious crush on the iPhone’s Siri and you’re apparently on the right track. It also appears that the film is not based on a Kaufman script and was instead written by Jonze. Hopefully you’ve got a scorecard handy to keep all of this straight…
The film has been shrouded in secrecy, which is pretty much standard operating procedure for anything Jonze is involved with, but it’s been taken to an even more extreme level since the notoriously secretive Megan Ellison of Annapurna Pictures is producing.
At any rate, we do know that the actresses mentioned are interested in the project. Whether there’s a part for all three of them or if they’re all competing for the same role isn’t entirely clear. The key thing to get excited about is that Spike Jonze is getting ready to make a new film – and regardless of who stars in it, that’s a good thing.
Hopefully this all gets sorted out in the very near future – and when it does, we’ll bring you the full details as to what exactly is in the works.
