SAG Nominations Announced: 'The Artist,' 'Bridesmaids,' 'The Descendants,' 'Moneyball' and 'J. Edgar' Lead the Pack

Dec 14, 2011

In case you haven't noticed, it's that time of the year when everyone announces their year-end favorites. Lots of film critic groups from around the country have been letting us know which 2011 films they consider to be the best all month long, and now this week brings two very popular nomination announcements: SAG (or Screen Actors Guild) and the Golden Globes (from the Hollywood Foreign Press). Today is SAG, awards voted on by actors and actresses. So which 2011 performances do the performers like best?

Not too many surprises to be found here, though folks will be cheering on Nick Nolte, nominated here in a supporting role for Warrior, since he's definitely been a fan-favorite who's been absent from many critic group lists. We're also seeing a lot of pairs from the same movie this year in supporting and leading role nominations -- like Leonardo DiCaprio and Armie Hammer for J. Edgar, Jonah Hill and Brad Pitt for Moneyball, Viola Davis and Jessica Chastain for The Help, and Glenn Close and Janet McTeer for Albert Nobbs. Lastly, it's nice to see Midnight in Paris begin its potential Oscar run with a nod here for Best Ensemble. Woody Allen's latest became a surprise hit over the summer, and it definitely left a mark among performers. Here's hoping its streak continues tomorrow with the Golden Globe nods.
