The Coen Brothers' remake of
True Grit—the film that won John Wayne his only Oscar—is the best Western in years.
Jeff Bridges plays Rooster Cogburn, a crusty U.S. Marshal hired by a 14-year-old girl (
Hailee Steinfeld) to bring the hammer of the law down on her father's killer (
Josh Brolin). Matt Damon co-stars as a Texas Ranger who is also tracking Brolin for a different murder.
True Grit took in over $165 million at the box office and was nominated for 10 Academy Awards. The acclaimed dusty drama moseys home on DVD and Blu-ray on June 7. Both versions contain "Mattie’s True Grit," "From Bustles to Buckskin: Dressing for the 1880s," "Re-Creating Fort Smith" and "The Cast." The Blu-ray corrals some exclusive extra nuggets, including "Colts, Winchesters & Remingtons: The Guns of a Post-Civil War Western," "Charles Portis—The Greatest Writer You’ve Never Heard Of…," "The Cinematography of True Grit" and the theatrical trailer.
