We hope you’re ready for more alphabetically themed tales of terror, because The ABCs of Death 2 is in the works.
Magnet has announced plans to follow up its cult anthology film with another sequel featuring a slew of new directors making short films about brutal death as defined by a letter of the alphabet. Think of it like a really bloody Sesame Street episode and you’re good to go.
The studio revealed the list of contributors at Cannes today, and genre fans should be delighted by some of the names on the docket. Highlights include indie favorite Larry Fessenden, Japan’s Sion Sono (who brought us Suicide Club), noted animator Bill Plympton, The Collector’s Marcus Dunstan, and Splice filmmaker Vincenzo Natali. That’s just for starters. Check out Deadline for the entire list of contributors and start imagining what they might bring to the table…
While the original didn’t set the box office aflame during its limited theatrical run, it has found an appreciative audience on DVD and VOD services – becoming one of Magnet’s strongest performers in those arenas. Will the sequel resonate with audiences in the same way? Will they be able to think up another Q title? What about X? We’ll have to wait til the film’s presumed 2014 release to find out for sure.
In the meantime, are you guys up for another go-round with the alphabet of doom? Who would you like to see win the fan’s choice poll for the final slot? Make your case below.
