Ryan Gosling's 1991 Talent Show Performance is the Greatest Thing You'll Watch Today

Jun 19, 2012

Before he became a bit of a hot shot on the Mickey Mouse Club (alongside fellow mouseketeers Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera), Ryan Gosling performed song-and-dance routines whenever and wherever he could throughout Ontario, which is where he grew up as part of a Mormon family. Gosling would perform at weddings and local talent shows alongside his sister; he was also part of his Uncle's Elvis Presley tribute act for awhile too. In the video below, watch as the Gosling kids work the crowd at one of those aforementioned talent shows, with 10-year-old Ryan making it clear from a very early age that he was destined for stardom.

Two years later Gosling would receive a two-year contract with the Mickey Mouse Club after impressing them at an open audition, and the rest is history. The performer would eventually opt out of childrens' programming as he approached his twenties, inching his way into Hollywood through roles in films like Remember the Titans and The Believer, but it was his turn in The Notebook that solidified his standing as one of Hollywood's most sought-after up-and-coming actors.

Gosling can next be seen as yet another big-screen badass in Gangster Squad, due out September 7th. [via TDW]

Bonus little-known Gosling fact: Did you know Ryan Gosling was suspended in first grade for throwing steak knives at his classmates after watching First Blood? Yup, true story.
