Have you lost that loving feeling, Nicolas Winding Refn? According to reports, the bromance between Ryan Gosling and the Danish film director won't be continuing for the upcoming Logan's Run remake. Variety's Justin Kroll tweeted the update, saying, "Rough news for those LOGAN'S RUN fans, I can confirm Ryan Gosling is no longer attached to the project." We're still taking it with a grain of salt for now.
Refn will direct the futuristic script from Will Beall about a dystopian society that dispatches with people when they reach the age of 30 as a means of controlling the population and preserving limited resources. Logan 5 is a fugitive known as a Sandman, who runs for his life to avoid execution. Gosling was set to play the lead, with Rose Byrne as Jessica 6 who helps Logan escape the city.
As The Playlist states, there are two obvious obstacles that could be preventing Gosling and Refn from working together — and one of them doesn't have anything to do with falling out of love with the other. Gosling will be making his directorial debut with How to Catch a Monster next year, which could be eating up his schedule for the time being. The film — also written by Gosling — will feature Mad Men actress and Drive costar Christina Hendricks and follows a single mother whose teen son discovers a surreal, mysterious underwater town. The other possibility, and one many won't want to believe about Baby Goose, is that he doesn't have the blockbuster star power that Warner Bros. is looking for in a lead actor.
Speculate the reasons for Goose's possible absence below, or just enjoy the above photo of two men loving each other.
