The massive, ambitious, on-again, off-again plan to adapt Stephen King’s multi-book series The Dark Tower may be on again within the next couple of weeks. Writer Akiva Goldsman is about to turn in a new draft for the proposed first installment of the project, which may encompass three films and two limited TV series. Javier Bardem is no longer under consideration for the key role of gunslinger Roland Deschain, however Russell Crowe (above, in Robin Hood) may take the lead for director Ron Howard. [Deadline]

Endless Love, the 1981 romantic drama that starred Brooke Shields and Martin Hewitt with Tom Cruise in a small role, is probably best remembered today for Lionel Richie’s theme song, performed with Diana Ross. So the news that Shana Feste (Country Strong) is in talks to write and direct a new version may be a very good thing, especially if it better captures the flavor of the source material, Scott Spencer’s National Book Award-nominated novel. It’s not the size of the role, it’s the quality of the performance, right? Will Ferrell has agreed to cameo in The Internship, in which his buddies Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson star as old-school salesmen who must reinvent themselves at a tech company. And Matthew McConaughey will join the all-star cast of Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street. He’ll play an early mentor for stockbroker Leonardo DiCaprio, which means he won’t be giving stripping lessons, as he did in Magic Mike. [Showblitz / Variety]

On the heels of being selected for Fantastic Fest and the Midnight Madness section of the Toronto International Film Festival, Pete Travis’ new version of Dredd 3D has unveiled a new poster, which drives home its message: “Judgment Is Coming.” Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby, and Lena Headley star; it hits theaters on September 21.
