Whoa, holy flippin' jeepers Batman -- where in the world did this wild rumor come from? Let's preface this by saying that, yes, this is definitely still in the wild rumor stage, but what separates this nugget from other anonymous, out-of-left-field Batman rumors is that there's an image to prove it. Folks from the Dark Knight Rises Rumors site received an image of an actor's trailer with the name "E. Page" on it, with "B. Gordon" scribbled underneath. The image was reportedly taken recently when The Dark Knight Rises was in New York City finishing up shooting.
So, um, where's the Batgirl connection? Well, B. Gordon, in all likelihood, stands for Barbara Gordon, aka Commissioner Gordon's (Gary Oldman) daughter, who in the comics is otherwise known as Batgirl. Has Nolan recruited his Inception co-star to play a bit part as a character in his final Batman movie? Chances are, yes, since he's already recruited Inception stars Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard. If there was another tiny role for a female, why not throw it to Ellen Page?
Plus it makes sense the character would be in there considering Nolan's recent comments that the film picks up eight years after The Dark Knight. That gives Gordon's children a chance to grow up some. Will Page transform into Batgirl during the movie? Probably not, or else we would've seen images of her in costume at some point along the way. But we could see her pop up to help out while Gordon is in the hospital, as per the film's teaser trailer. Maybe she and Gordon-Levitt team up to fight crime after Batman retires at the end of the movie or something. It's a fun little tease, and we look forward to seeing what Nolan reveals when the film opens on July 20th, 2012.
Check out the image below and let us know what you think. Is it legit, or is it just someone having a little fun with the fanboy crowd?
Updated: Multiple sources are claiming the image below is indeed fake, and that Ellen Page is not playing Barbara Gordon in the film.
