Zombies have taken on many different foes over the years. We've seen strippers (Zombies vs. Strippers), a high school girl’s swimming team (Attack Girls Swim Team vs. The Undead), and even cops and criminals forced to work together (The Horde). We guess it was only a matter of time before pro wrestlers got in on the act.
Filmmaker Cody Knotts has unleashed his first full trailer for the upcoming Pro Wrestlers vs. Zombies – an action-horror romp that proves there’s still truth in advertising.
The low-budget indie film features an impressive list of your favorite performers from the squared circle, led by the inimitable Rowdy Roddy Piper (no stranger to cult-film immortality thanks to his work in John Carpenter’s They Live), Kurt Angle, the Franchise Shane Douglas, Hacksaw Jim Duggan (and his trusty two-by-four) and more.
Even more surprising is that it looks like it could be good, gory, low-budget fun. The wrestlers are booked to do a private show at an old prison, but arrive to find that the inmates are gone – replaced by a horde of very hungry zombies. It’s up to Piper and his cronies to battle their way out of the prison without winding up as a main course.
Fans of zombies and pro wrestling are bound to love this feature. Our only disappointment here is that they didn’t get Kevin Sullivan to bring back his satanist shtick from the mid ‘80s. Who better to bring about the zombie apocalypse than the devil-worshipping Sullivan of that era?
Pro Wrestlers vs. Zombies doesn’t have an official release date, but you can swing by the film’s website for more details and behind-the-scenes info.
