The Rock vs. Taylor Lautner in a New David vs. Goliath?

The Rock vs. Taylor Lautner in a New David vs. Goliath?

Biblical stories make their way across the big screen in waves, but never go out of style. The Day the Earth Stood Still and The Exorcism of Emily Rose director Scott Derrickson is banking on that with his upcoming film, Goliath, for Relativity Media and Temple Hill Entertainment -- and Twitch has word on who is in line to play the parts of the giant and shepherd. Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) and Taylor Lautner are being considered for the roles of a Philistine with superhuman strength and a boy with a slingshot and the power of the big guy upstairs behind him.

Johnson, who stands at a muscular 6'5", should be a fitting substitute for the nine-foot plus giant who taunts and challenges the Israelites to battle. As Twitch reports, an offer has been made to Lautner, but talks are still in the early stages. Since Twilight producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey are also involved in the project, it seems safe to place your bets on seeing Lautner's character slaughter the giant for the Israelite army. The Twilight actor is known for tearing his shirt off and flaunting his six-pack, which makes him seem like a strange choice for the brave, but simple boy who revels in the glory of God. There is scripture describing the power of David's faith, which allows him to kill lions and bears for his father Jesse. Illustrating this kind of doctrine with a few muscles seems to be required in order to make it somewhat believable. Then again, some would say this is the Bible we're talking about.

Is there room in your life for another scripture story, aside from Darren Aronofsky's Noah?
