Richard Linklater Will Finally Make That Spiritual Sequel to 'Dazed and Confused'

Aug 05, 2014

Richard LinklaterBoyhooddirector Richard Linklater’s epic 12-years-in-the-making coming-of-age film, is already garnering critical praise and potential awards buzz. Now it may be indirectly responsible for helping Linklater make a sequel some of us have wanted for years.

THR is reporting that Linklater has quietly dropped out of his planned remake of The Incredible Mr. Limpet – a project he’d been attached to since 2011. The reason for the departure was the always-vague “scheduling conflicts," but what could the filmmaker have in his queue that would interfere Mr. Limpet's incredible movie? How about a spiritual successor to Dazed and Confused.

Sources say that Linklater dropped Limpet so he could focus on prepping That’s What I’m Talking About – a project based on Linklater’s experiences of entering college in the 1980s. It'll track a group of freshman navigating college life while trying to make the baseball team.

Meanwhile, Dazed chronicled his high school years in the ‘70s, following a group of teenagers on the last day of school, some of whom were on the baseball team. Pretty exciting, eh?

Linklater is said to be gearing up to shoot the movie this fall. In the meantime, when can we preorder the soundtrack?
