Once upon a time, television was basically considered the little brother of the movie biz. Sure, you could be famous and make a good living making TV – but everyone really wanted to be working in movies. Well, TV has closed the gap pretty significantly over the past few years – and is now almost as prestigious as working on the silver screen. That trend looks to continue into 2014 if these new clips are any indication.
First up, the new promo trailer for season two of NBC’s hit Hannibal. I’m woefully behind on episodes of this series, but the show – which is based on Thomas Harris’ popular Hannibal Lecter character – has garnered plenty of positive buzz for its gruesome tale of FBI profiler Will Graham’s quest to capture Lecter.
The new clip is impressive – so impressive that I hope to get all caught up on season one before the new shows start airing on February 28. Only bit of advice I have before watching this preview? Be careful – it looks a little spoilery. [via IndieWire]
Next up, we’ve got another cop-show trailer – but the tone of this one is a complete 180 from the dark and haunting Hannibal.
Babylon is the newest U.K. cop show, coming from Danny Boyle and the guys who gave us Peep Show. The show is a cop drama with some laughs mixed in, and the pilot, which stars indie favorite Brit Marling, is set to air on February 7 on the U.K.’s Channel 4. Plans are already underway to shoot more episodes this spring.
Could Babylon be the next hit in TV’s version of the British invasion? Judging by this trailer, all signs point to yes. [via Bleeding Cool]
Halle Berry is set to make the jump from the silver screen to your living room when she headlines CBS’ new sci-fi series Extant. The show finds Berry playing an astronaut who spent a year in space – and chronicles how she tries to reassimilate to life back on Earth. Oh, and she eventually changes the entire course of human history somehow, too.
CBS has unveiled the first teaser trailer for the show – and it really is a teaser, because it doesn’t tell us much of anything. Hopefully we can learn more about Extant before it debuts this July. Until then, enjoy the clip. [via Collider]
Finally, we wrap things up with some casting news.
NBC is going full-speed ahead on its planned miniseries updating of Roman Polanski’s Rosemary’s Baby. The network has already cast Zoe Saldana in the lead role, and has now added Jason Isaacs and Patrick J. Adams to the mix.
Adams is slated to play Guy, Rosemary’s husband, while Isaacs will play Roman Castavet – her neighbor and leader of the Satanic coven who so desperately wants her unborn child. Expect more casting news soon, as NBC is looking to start filming in the very near future. [via Empire Online]
