Reel TV that takes an ongoing look at the growing intersection of movies and television. If there's a big screen talent making the move to small screen, even temporarily, we want to tell you about it.
There are quite a few TV shows in the works using big-screen properties as their backbones, but few are quite as intriguing as Hannibal. Titles like Heathers or Sleepy Hollow just don't bring to mind the immediate image that cinema's most famous cannibal does, and so ever since the NBC series was announced, we've wondered what the network TV version of Hannibal Lecter might look like. Today we have our answer.
He looks like Mads Mikkelsen.
Okay, so that's not very surprising. We already knew that Mikkelsen was playing the mad and human-hungry doctor (he even passed on being the villain in Thor: The Dark World due to his comittment to the series), but these images [via AITH] do offer us our first look at the show, which also stars Hugh Dancy, Caroline Dhavernas, Laurence Fishburne and Gina Torres. Naturally we get to see Hannibal both having and preparing for a meal, but we also get a look at Hugh Dancy's version of FBI agent Will Graham (from Manhunter/Red Dragon). There's even a behind-the-scenes shot of pilot director and series producer David Slade (30 Days of Night) staring at a rather large hunk of pink meat (he's the guy leaning on the metal table).
So what do you think? It's always hard to tell from still images alone how something will turn out, but we've got a good feeling about this one. David Slade's a fine director, especially when working in the genre world, and it's got a good cast so far. Might this actually turn out pretty well? Now we just need to get a look at Lifetime's Clarice Starling TV show...
