Straight from the “almost too bizarre to be true” file comes this bit of movie-related crime news…
Brooklyn resident Kevin Crawford was attempting to rob his third bank – and it was a smashing success, until the would-be robber exited the financial institution in his Captain America-inspired Red Skull mask and ran into a patrol of Hasidic Jews. Where was Captain America?
The Borough Park Shomrim spotted Crawford after he’d absconded with $8,000. They followed and then captured Crawford a short time later. This wasn’t the man’s first bank robbery, either – he’d previously made off with $2,000 from another bank. No word on what mask he wore for that one.
One word of advice – if you’re going to rob a bank in an area where there’s a patrol team made up of Hasidic Jews, you might not want to wear the mask of a comic book and movie character based on the Nazis of World War II. Parading around as Red Skull doesn't exactly scream "keeping a low profile" in those circumstances.
Needless to say, while this is a cool story we somehow doubt that it will be used to plot a new Captain America movie.
