Real-Life Tarzan Wants to Be in the Movies

Real-Life Tarzan Wants to Be in the Movies

Jan 31, 2012

A 24-year-old South African man is hoping to become the new Tarzan. He's a former security guard and bodybuilder whose best friend is an elephant named Shaka. He also eats fruits, berries, and insects he finds in the jungle, and swings from trees. Meet loincloth lover DeWet Du Toit, who sees himself as the Edgar Rice Burroughs apeman.
"I spend more time with monkeys, zebras and crocodiles than I do with people [...] People might say I'm crazy, but I know this is what I was born to do. […] I make a platform in a tree to keep away from prowling leopards and snakes on the ground.
It does get lonely — I would love to find a Jane to help me pass the time."  ... Ladies?
Du Toit has created a demo reel to share his barefoot, bellowing antics with the world. Is that a gorilla he's killing? We thought Tarzan was friends with all the animals, so it was kind of devastating to watch him murder a man in a monkey suit. Du Toit has always admired the cinematic versions of Tarzan, so this clip will hopefully be his meal ticket to something bigger. Keep on swinging, big guy.
