One of the complaints about The Purge was that its core idea - in the future there's one night a year where all crime is legal - was too underutilized; that it was basically just a home invasion movie with a weird backstory. And while I seem to have dug James DeMonaco's movie and ideas more than most, even I can admit those are fair complaints.
Well, looks like most of them were heard for the sequel, The Purge: Anarchy. The teaser trailer for the film just hit online, and it seems to have doubled down on the original's world-o-violence idea. This time we're following a couple whose car breaks down on their way home on the eve of The Purge, forcing them to try to survive the night out in the lawless streets.
If you just cannot indulge the logical leap that this movie exists in an alternate reality future where a day of total chaos is embraced by everyone, this probably won't lure you on board. But if all you wanted was to see a larger slice of the New Founders of America future, then The Purge: Anarchy may deliver just that when it hits theaters June 20, 2014.
