Pump Up Your Movie Collection: Warner Bros. Launches DVD2BLU Program

Nov 18, 2009

One of the bellyaches you hear from people about Blu-ray goes something like this: “I spent all these years collecting DVDs of my favorite movies, and now I have to start all over again?” First of all, no you don’t, because a Blu-ray player will still play those DVDs and upconvert them so they look pretty damn good. But if you still prefer your favorite movies on Blu-ray and want to upgrade, Warner Bros. is making the switch almost painless with its new DVD2BLU program. For as little as $7.95, DVD owners can send in their old Warner Bros. DVDs and in four or five weeks receive Blu-ray titles of the same movie. Currently there are 55 titles listed on the site, including 2001: A Space Odyssey, Beetlejuice, Pan’s Labyrinth, Risky Business, The Shining, Speed Racer, Superman II, and Wedding Crashers with more on the way. This is a similar setup as Warner Bros.’s RED2BLU program, which dealt with that messy little HD DVD problem. We suspect DVD2BLU will get a lot more traffic.
