In a new article over at The Hollywood Reporter that feels like it's more speculation than solid facts, some tidbits regarding sequels to this year's biggest hits are revealed. The most concrete sequel on their list that hasn't been officially announced yet is Prometheus 2, which Ridley Scott is actively pursuing with deals for both Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender already in place. THR says they're talking to new writers now (Damon Lindelof wants to move on to other projects), with an expected arrival in theaters in either 2014 or 2015.
Meanwhile, Universal won't be moving ahead with more Battleship movies after the box office sunk that ship, but they do want to discuss sequels for Ted and American Reunion, both of which did very well in theaters. Neither has an official commitment as of yet, though the American Reunion writers do have a production deal in place with the studio. If a big-screen Pie sequel doesn't happen, we expect the franchise to return to direct-to-DVD sequels. As for Ted, it would appear the ball will be squarely in Seth McFarlane's court, who said at Comic-Con that he'd "be open to Ted 2." Are you open to it?
Other sequels mentioned as possibilities include Magic Mike 2, Men in Black 4 and Snow White and the Huntsman 2, though none of these have been officially announced.
Which sequel to a film that came out this year would you be most excited to see?
