The New York International Latino Film Festival — which kicks off on August 13 — has a geeky print campaign running right now. Sponsor HBO pitched in to help create ads that depict genre storyline clichés from start to finish. They're called "movie recipes" and show a timeline of events in miniature illustration form on what appears to be a recipe card. Pretty cute, HBO.
Buddy-cop movies, "chick flicks," serial-killer stories, alien-invasion films, sports-comeback epics, and spaghetti Western classics all get the predictable plot treatment. We like the way the alien-invasion cliché toys with a sequel at the end, but the same could be said for all the films featured. Check out the illustrations below, and don't worry about spoilers since you could most likely write these films in your sleep (like most Hollywood filmmakers, apparently).
