CinemaCon is an annual convention put on by the National Association of Theatre Owners where various sectors of the movie industry gather to look toward the future. Some studios show off footage of movies that are about to come out, some companies reveal industry-changing technology, and others merely announce their franchise plans. That last bit is what brings us here today. Universal has announced a handful of sequels, and they're all pretty exciting:
Fast & Furious 7 - July 11, 2014
What We Know: James Wan (Insidious, Death Sentence) is taking over for director Justin Lin, who has helmed the majority of the films in the franchise. We don't officially know much beyond this, but there are plenty of rumors already circulating about who will end up in front of the camera and whether they'll be a good or bad guy.
Pitch Perfect 2 - 2015
What We Know: Not much, though you can bet that most, if not all, of the first film's cast will be returning. And even without any details, if you're not excited at seeing the words Pitch Perfect 2, it means you haven't seen Pitch Perfect. You should change that, because it's incredible. It's the Bring It On of a cappella singing-competition movies.
Snow White and the Huntsman 2 - 2015
What We Know: There's a lack of info here as well, but we do know that Rupert Sanders, who directed the first film, will not be back to direct. Kristen Stewart, however, is expected to return. And if you're wondering why they're making a sequel, just look at the first film's box office numbers ($397 million globally) and you have your answer.
Untitled Bourne Sequel - TBD
What We Know: Jeremy Renner took over the franchise with The Bourne Legacy, and while it didn't seem to have the breakthrough that Matt Damon's films had, it was still successful ($276 million globally). The studio hasn't announced a writer, director, or even if Renner is returning, but it is "actively working" on a new one.
