Sail the Seven Seas in this 'The Pirates! An Adventure with Scientists' Trailer

Poster for Pirates! An Adventure with Scientists

It’s been five long years since Aardman Animations has blessed us all with a new feature, but good things apparently come to those who wait. The company, best known for Chicken Run and Wallace & Gromit, has two new titles in the works, one set for release later this year, the other in early 2012.

The first of those is Arthur Christmas, a CG animated feature for Sony. The trailer for that film debuted recently, but today we bring you a sneak peek at the first clip for their second project, The Pirates! An Adventure with Scientists (aka The Pirates! Band of Misfits). Based on Gideon DeFoe’s book The Pirates! An Adventure with Scientists, Wikipedia offers up this plot synopsis:

“The Pirate Captain and his crew of swashbuckling pirates attempt to beat his rivals Black Bellamy and Cutlass Liz in the Pirate of the Year Award. On their quest they battle Queen Victoria and meet a young Charles Darwin.”

Featuring the voice talents of Hugh Grant, Salma Hayek, Jeremy Piven, and Brian Blessed, the film certainly packs star power. The stop frame animation is also quite lovely, as you can see in the trailer below.

Pirates is being helmed by Peter Lord, who also brought us Chicken Run, so we know this project is in very capable hands. Lovers of quirky animation will want to clear their calendars on March 30th of 2012, which is when The Pirates will sail into a theater near you. Until then, enjoy the new trailer and be sure to swing by the comment section to share your thoughts on the project.
