The Worst Parents in Movie History

Jun 11, 2012 Comments

When you think of bad parents nowadays, most look to reality TV with its cavalcade of wince-inducing examples featured in Toddlers & Tiaras, Teen Moms and Dance Moms (to name just a few). But thank goodness for Adam Sandler who returns to theaters this week with That’s My Boy to remind us that movies are still the standard bearer for some of the worst parenting examples in modern history.

In That’s My Boy, Sandler plays Donny Berger, a teen screw-up that slept with his teacher in seventh grade. Their tryst produced Todd (Andy Samberg), who Donny raised as a truly horrifyingly bad single parent for 18 years until the kid ran for the hills. Donny tracks down his son just in time for Todd’s impending wedding with lots of nostalgic stories about how he let his little boy drive at eight, get a tattoo at three and each candy for breakfast. Good times.

Samberg’s love letter to atrocious parenting got us thinking about other worthy inductees to the Worst Parents in Movie History Hall of Fame. Here are more of our nominees (beware some plot spoilers ahead)…
