Sporting events and movies afford us all a brief but necessary respite from our lives. They also provide us with great alibis.
When combined together, sports and movies are like beer and pizza, or Nicolas Cage and toupees – they’re mostly great. Sometimes, a flick perfectly captures the essence and importance of a sport; other times, it’s simply a gimmick to draw in crowds.
With the approach of the Super Bowl (America’s greatest competition now that we’ve already lost in global literacy), I’ve gone through some of the best known sports films and determined whether they were good, bad, or bogus.
Note: Time and word count restrictions prevented my inclusion of several films. Tell me what I missed.
