The Good, The Bad, and The Bogus: Original Superhero Movies

Jan 30, 2012 Comments

In Chronicle, three high school friends suddenly gain superpowers. Will they use them for good or for evil? We’ll find out when the film opens on Friday, but, as a superhero movie written directly for the screen, and not based on a pre-existing property, such as a comic book series or a graphic novel, Chronicle has already set itself apart from the crowd. Of course, simply because a superhero movie is “original” doesn’t mean it’s good; it’s just as likely -- or more so -- to be bad (as it not well made or poorly executed), or, worse yet, to be bogus (the premise falling apart under close consideration).
