Richard Linklater’s Dazed and Confused turns 20 years old today. Two decades after its release in 1993 (nearly two decades after when it’s set) Linklater’s beloved movie continues to resonate deeply for lifelong devotees alike.

That’s largely because it remains a universal portrait of the teenagers we were or wanted to be, and a testament to how – regardless of the fashion, music, or lingo of any given era – growing up never changes. In other words, Dazed and Confused works because it’s always felt like it’s more about our lives than its characters’.
